Last.FM has been playing a lot of German indie rock on my library radio station. Not sure what in my listening habits steered it in that direction.
I have no idea what they’re saying, but darned if I don’t love the stuff.
Check out Olli Shulz & der Hund Marie and Kettcar.
With the small exception that is Joseph Martens’ “Sunday Morning Coming Down”, it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to music on radio in my car or otherwise. For years, I listened to talk radio (RealRadio 104.1FM in the Central Florida area), then I moved on to podcasts—mostly of the NPR variety.
When I did listen to music radio, one of my favorite things was how I could be thinking about a song and I’d turn on the radio to hear it playing. I know this happens to a lot of people. We’re not psychic; it’s just the nature of pop music. They play the same stuff over and over again on the “Top 40” stations so the music gets stuck in your head and from there, it’s just a numbers game as to whether or not that ear bug is going to be playing when you tune in.
Nowadays, I get to experience the Web 2.0 version of this phenomenon: I’ll be thinking about a band I like—particularly, my favorite song by that artist—so I’ll fire up Last.FM and tune it to that artist’s station. Three times out of five, the playlist will start off with the song I was thinking about. So maybe I’m not psychic, but Last.FM is totally my bitch.
Dance for me, music streaming application. DANCE!
p.s. This morning, it was this song.
Last.FM, I’ve banned three (3) Art Brut songs today and you just played another one—just two songs after the last one I banned. Are you just messing with me now?
Ay yo, Art Brut, you know that’s not really singing, right? Ok, glad you’re aware of it. I was just stopping by to ask while on my way to hitting Last.FM’s skip button.
Last.FM, do you not know how to take a hint from the “skip” button? I do not like The Libertines. Then again, I don’t hate them enough to invoke the “ban” button; so I guess it’s my fault for scrobbling mixed signals.
